The traditional ruler of Igiriukwu Ipu Autonomous community, Umungede, in Owaza community of Ukwa West local government area of Abia state, HRH Eze Jonathan Onwugbufor Ezere, has decried the deplorable condition of his occasioned by oil spills, saying it was posing health hazards to his people in addition to ell destroying their farmlands.
The traditional ruler of the oil-rich Owaza community disclosed this yesterday at his Igiriukwu Palace while briefing newsmen on the pitiable conditions his people are going through in the face of oil spill.
He added that the heath of his subjects in Owaza was in danger, stressing that many of their old parents were suffering from asthma, cancer due to the pollution of their environment.
He lamented that the highest shrine in Igiriukwu had already been destroyed by oil spills.

He said: “We lack food; our farmlands have been polluted as a result of oil spills. We no longer have fruits in our land, no good roads; no employment for our young boys and girls despite the fact Owaza is an oil- rich community.”
Chairman of the oil-producing communities, Abia state chapter, Eze Ezere, called on Governor Ikpeazu to call those Owaza youths of old autonomous communities to order to respect the autonomous created by the government.
